ORU

Who

One person,
one tee.

ORU is one person. No studio, no team, no warehouse, no investor. I picked the cloth, I set the print, and I answer the emails.

The mark is a bird I folded out of cigarette foil on a station platform, waiting for a train. Four folds. The red is just where the printing on the foil happened to land, and I kept it. The original is about thirty millimetres across. I still have it.

Why a tee

Because it is the hardest easy thing.

Putting a logo on a blank takes an afternoon. Deciding how heavy the cloth should be, how boxy the cut, and how small the mark can go before people stop noticing it — that took months, and most of the work was leaving things out.

240 gsm rather than the usual 150. Boxy rather than fitted. A seven-centimetre mark rather than a print across the chest. Each of those costs money, and together they are why this is $48 and not $20.

How it works

Nothing exists until you order it.

No stock

I hold no inventory. Your shirt is printed after you buy it, at the press closest to your address, which is also why it never goes on sale.

No middle

You are buying from the person who made the thing. The reply to your email is from me, usually within a day, and always within one business day.

No theatre

No countdown timers, no invented reviews, no limited-edition number I would have to pretend to count. If something here is not true yet, it does not go on the site.
